Fire Door Safety Week

Fire Door Safety Week 19th – 25th September 2022

The time of year has come around for national Fire Door Safety Week. This year’s week will run from 19th- 25th September and focuses on the critical role that fire doors play in delaying the spread of smoke and fire, protecting properties and saving lives. Raising awareness to homeowners, renters and developers in a bid to stamp out the legacy of fire door neglect the week

While security and safety are often high priorities, fire safety often doesn’t fall as high on the agender. People are more likely to report issues with heating or plumbing problems than faulty fire doors and this choice can be the difference between life and death.

The aim of Fire Door Safety Week has always been to raise awareness of the critical role fire doors play in protecting property and ultimately saving lives. To help share knowledge and raise awareness around the importance of Fire Door Safety and Fire Door Safety Week, The British Woodworking Federation Group have put together a handy tool kit of resources along with help and advice for a range of property sectors.

The issues with implementing effective fire door safety exist in almost any building type or sector imaginable rather than just the high rise, high risk buildings people ultimately think of.

But what are the main things to check to make sure your fire doors meet the highest safety standards?

The top 5 things to make sure you keep on top on are,

Certification
Apertures
Gaps and seals
Closures
Operation

For help and guidance on this, the British Woodworking Federation Group and FireDoor Safety Week are on hand with a selection of events and e-learning across the week. These include a number of free online events, a ‘manufacturers behaving badly’ masterclass and a certified introduction to fire doors training course. To sign up for any of these or find out more about what’s going on throughout the week visit the National Fire Door Safety Week events page for more information.
